White Week

 The boys had a week off for half term, so we decided to jump on the bandwagon and take a ski trip like everyone else.  People call it "settimana bianca" or white week.  Lucky for us we have friends that know all the right tips and tricks and we found a great place in the Dolomites, only three hours away. 

We went to Moena, Italy, a cute little town that reminds me of all the ski towns in Colorado!  The drive was peaceful and beautiful, we saw castles and beautiful cities on the sides of mountains. Not like the flat lands we're used to.  The kids did great in the car and we arrived Sunday afternoon, with plenty of time to jump in the pool and catch up with our friends. 

We signed the boys up for snowboarding lessons during the week.  They learned so much so fast in just two hours a day, going from never snowboarding before to riding down the mountain by day 2! They both had the best time and we're so happy every day to try out something new.  In no time, they were happy to do more snowboarding than Josh and I.  

Lilly wasn't old enough or ready enough to start snowboarding, but she had a great time anyways.  There was a playground in the snow as well as a kids daycare area that she loved.  Because of the day care Josh and I even got to go out and do a little snowboarding on our own.  It was fun and hard and we were happy to be done! 
 
The weather was fantastic, sunny and hot most days. Too hot for winter jackets, hats and gloves.  We spent a lot of time in t-shirts and snow pants! Perfect if you ask me! 
 
The hotel was fantastic and included a kids club and day care on the mountain.  Each night there was a different event and the boys loved it.  Pajama parties and dance parties, what's not to love!  We loved it too, the kids were having a great time and Josh and I got to have a little "date night"! Win win for everyone.  We had joint dinners with our friends and got to try lots of yummy Italian dishes. 

Friday, the boys got to have a race with their friends.  The only other two snowboarders in the group.  They didn't win but they had a great time and were thrilled to each have their own medal.  
Lilly ended up with a fever so we cut the trip short one day.  We had a blast and we were all sore and exhausted.  Everyone is already talking about settimana bianca for next year.

We've arrived

 Buongiorno! It's been over 5 months since my last update.  We thought we would live in the apartment 6 weeks, but that turned into 5 months.  It was long and frustrating but we reached the end of the tunnel and I'm now sitting in Italy drinking coffee on the patio.  I guess it was worth the wait!   We arrived on Tuesday morning and I'm pretty sure since then I've slept about 8 hours total. Jet lag is rough!  The kids finally slept through the night last night.  So maybe Josh and I are close too!   The boys started school and the first day seemed to be great!  They are going to the International School in Bologna and have already made some friends.  I've met several people as well and everyone is so friendly!  We're all in the same boat and everyone just "gets it".  They get the frustrations and the delay, the different food and the tired kids.  So I think we will fit in just fine!       ...

How it all came about

                                                                                As usual, when big things happen Josh is traveling.  He received a phone call late one evening while in the hotel.  Asking how he would like to work in Italy.  There weren't many details yet, but his mind started spinning and let's say he didn't sleep much that night.  Fast forward to the next morning.  I was doing my usual bible study and just felt and overwhelming sense that I needed to say "Yes" to God.  I didn't know what that meant, but in one short day I would find out.  Josh would get home late that night but I was already in bed.  He didn't want to wake me, so he held onto the news for one more day.  Another sleeple...

YES You Can!

                                                                       As the news starts to spread we hear people tell us over and over, "Oh, I could never do that".  Never move to another country, never learn a new language, never move away from family and friends.  Well years ago I thought the same thing.  Then I was asked and my very first response was, "Well, can you say no?"
