Home for the Holidays

Being away from home is always difficult, especially at the holidays.  So we decided we would head back every year while we are living in Italy.  This year we got to spend a little extra time back in Iowa.  We filled every second of the 3 weeks with people and things we missed, it was wonderful and exhausting.

We went to movies, with friends and with family, not normally a big deal, but its exciting to see movies in English!  We had play dates, and Chick Fil A dates, Christmases and girls nights. We had sick days and we made cookies, and gingerbread houses. We saw Christmas lights and went to our church we miss so much.

We had cousin time and grandparents time, friend time and jet lag time.  Almost every minute was filled and we enjoyed every second with those who are so far away.  The time was too short and we didn't fit it all in.  But we left with full hearts and big hugs, and a few tears.

It was time to go back home, or home for now, in Italy.  Its a funny feeling to feel like you have two homes.  We're thankful for this time in Italy, and the wonderful people we have met here. It truly does feel like home, with a little Iowa shaped piece missing.
